Antar, the slave-son of an Arab prince of the tribe if Abs from the great Arabian desert, fell in love with his highborn cousin Abla. Not recognized as a son by his noble father, he grew up outside the circles of society. On the desert plains he learned to ride skillfully and throw his spear until he was most feared and stronger than any other slave. He distinguished himself in battle becoming his tribe’s hero, knight and poet thus gaining his rightful position within his tribe, worthy of his beautiful and beloved cousin Abla. (ca. 525-615 AD)
